I'm very excited about being your Introduction to Computer Applications teacher. I wish you a good and successful year! Please check Edmodo to check your assignments and other important information. If you have any question, feel free to ask me.
Today we spoke about the differences, advantages and disadvantages of Mac and Windows (PC's) computers. I need you to do some extra research online and mention at least three differences in your own words. Some people prefer Macs and some people prefer Windows PC's. The important thing is that you will learn a different operating system if you have Windows at home. It is great to be proficient in both platforms. You can review the presentation I showed you today in Edmodo and even save it in your computers if you wish.
QUIZ & TEST: Below this paragraph I'll mention the vocabulary you must learn for a Quiz and Test at the end of the month. Quiz: Group 1: 9/23, Group 2: 9/25 and Group 3: 9/27. Remember: Group 1
attends class on cycle days 1 & 2; Group 2 attends on cycle days 3
& 4; and Group 3 attends on cycle days 5 & 6. It will take us (at least me) a while to get used to this. I will have different versions of the quiz. I will inform you later about the material for the Test (Quiz material will be included) and the dates.
Vocabulary: Computer, Hardware, Software, Operating System, Input Devices, Output Devices, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Integrated Circuit (IC), Digital, Digital System, Digitize, Binary Numbers, Bits, Bytes, Kilobytes, Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes, Data.(These are the only vocabulary terms you MUST know for the Quiz - study the Computer Concepts PowerPoint in Edmodo).
Later on, once you can log-in into a Mac Computer, you will learn to locate the basic elements in your Mac computer (Vocabulary: Desktop, Finder, Dock, Icon(s), Menu Bar, Spotlight, Pointer, Mouse
Button, Launchpad, Close, Minimize and Zoom Buttons, View Buttons, Side
Bar, Resizer, The Title Bar, The Scroll Bar, Folder, File Management). Check: MacEssentials (click link) to check the definitions of some of these elements. Here you can check the icons used in your Mac X OS (Mountain Lion): ML (click these two letters). Also check: PCtoMacs (don't worry about the information for Laptops). You can find the same movie in PCtoMacs2 in the Apple website. This material won't be included in your Quiz.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask Mrs. Feld.
