SECOND QUARTER

During this quarter you will learn how to format Word Documents using the Mac Version of Microsoft Word 2011. You will learn how to change margins, change the orientation of a document (as Landscape or Portrait), change line spacing, create two columns, indent paragraphs, add pictures, create a "Drop Cap," enter a Header and a Footer, and many more "formatting" features and options.

Please check Edmodo often. There you can find five "Formatting Word Documents Exercises (1-5):
  1. Exercise No. 1."Smartphones" - in this exercise you will learn how to change margins, how to "Select-All" (Command-A), how to indent paragraphs, how to add spacing before and/or after a title or paragraph, and how to insert and wrap an image.
  2. Exercise No. 2. "Life's Journey" - here you will learn how to create two columns with a line in the middle, how to change margins, how to change the titles using the "Styles" section in the Home Tab, how to change the indentation of paragraphs, how to add a Footer, how to even the columns for a more professional look.
  3. Exercise No. 3. "Positive Attitude" - this exercise will teach you how to center titles, change the font, create a "Drop Cap," and insert a footer.
  4. Exercise No. 4. "Trees" - here you will type the title and text yourself and format the document per the instructions. You will create two columns below the title and insert a "Column Break." You will also insert an image (of a tree) and format the picture changing the transparency and sending it behind the text. You will also add a "Drop Cap." The PDF in Edmodo has the instructions (in callouts). Read the instructions carefully!
  5. Exercise No. 5. "Insert a Table in Word" (Table Exercise No. 1) - you will learn how to insert a table in Word and how to format it, centering titles, changing the font, moving the table, etc. You will also insert images and enter your name, Period No. and date in the Footer.
If you have any questions or need my assistance, please feel free to ask me. After you complete all these exercises, I will give you another Formatting Word Documents exercise that will count as a Test. You will also learn how to create Hanging Indents, how to insert Bullets and Numbering, how to add Tabs and Indents, how to create a "subscript" and a "superscript" and many other important features in Word.

Our Second Quarter ends January 24, 2014. Midterm Exams week: January 21st - January 24th, 2014. Yes, there is a Computer Applications Midterm Exam!
